چکیده

Dear Editor, Aorto-oesophageal fi stula (AEF) is a rare surgical emergency that is often lethal. Primary causes described include thoracic aortic aneurysm1 and carcinoma of the oesophagus.2 Secondary causes include foreign body ingestion3 such as chicken and fish bones, surgical instrumentation, and procedures such as oesophageal biopsy,4 and erosion from aortic bypass grafts.5 In this case report, we describe a patient with AEF who presented with massive haematemesis from an oesophageal lesion found on endoscopy.

Aorto-oesophageal fistula with upper gastrointestinal tract intramural haematoma in an oesophageal cancer patient.

Sudden onset haematemesis occurred in a 52-year old male with oesophageal cancer. Computed tomography showed an aorto-oesophageal fistula with contrast extravasation from the aorta. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair with stent graft was done. The haematemesis stopped postoperatively, but follow-up images (Fig. 1) showed persistent contrast extravasation. The patient died of another episode of...

Aorto-oesophageal fistula and aortic pseudoaneurysm caused by a swallowed fish bone.

We describe a rare case of aorto-oesophageal fistula and aortic pseudoaneurysm in a middle-aged man, who presented with chest pain and haematemesis 1 week after swallowing a fish bone. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and computed tomographic angiography findings were consistent with oesophageal perforation, proximal descending aortic pseudoaneurysm, and aorto-oesophageal fistula. Thoracic endovascu...

Seven days later, she developed retrosternal pain and haematemesis. She vomited 200 ml of bright red blood. Bilateral oesophageal perforations with local fester were found 25 cm away from the incisors in oesoph...
